Children with Special Needs and Disabilities
At St Giles we believe every child is entitled to a broad, balanced and accessible curriculum, and to an education that enables them to achieve their best, grow in confidence and lead a fulfilling life.
The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice supports children and young people aged 0–25. Its main aim is to identify needs early and make sure the right support is put in place. Children, parents and carers are at the heart of this process and are involved in decisions about support and next steps. Families should also be well informed about the help and services available to them.
Our Inclusion Manager (SENCO), Ms Lisa Price, works in school two days a week and is happy to help with any questions or concerns related to SEND. She can be contacted via the school office at: office@stgilesprimary.co.uk.
Every class is supported by a teaching assistant each morning, and teachers adapt learning carefully to meet the needs of all children. Staff work tirelessly in partnership to ensure every learner is supported and able to make good progress. We regularly review pupils’ development and keep parents informed, with more frequent updates for children who need additional support.
We also work with specialist services when appropriate and place great importance on working closely with parents. While our website provides an overview of our SEND provision, we know that personal conversations and collaborative working are key to getting support right for each child. Clear communication is a priority, and parents receive Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that explain the support in place and the progress being made. Parents are fully involved in decisions about how best to support their child’s learning and development.
