Equality & Diversity
At St Giles we are fully committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers, regardless of race, gender, disability, belief, sexual orientation, age or socio-economic background.
We strive to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity where everyone connected to the school feels valued, respected, and proud of their identity. Through the active promotion of equality, the challenging of stereotypes and bullying, and the creation of a respectful and supportive environment, we aim to ensure that all individuals can participate fully in school life.
We believe that diversity is a powerful strength, one that should be celebrated and embraced by everyone who learns, teaches, or visits St Giles. We recognise that each individual has unique needs, and we understand that equality is not about treating everyone the same, but about providing the support they need to thrive.
Equality Objectives
The school complies with the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), part of the Equality Act 2010, through our published Equality Information & Objectives Policy .
It outlines the school’s statutory duties and responsibilities, including setting equality objectives. Each year the school draws up a School Improvement Plan (SIP) outlining the specific actions and projects that shall be undertaken, implementing the principles in this policy. Our equality objectives are cross-referenced with the School Improvement Plan which ensures that they are monitored and evaluated systematically.
Our current equality objectives are:
- Reduce the impact of socioeconomic disparities on pupil achievement, progress and participation, including sports and extra-curricular activities.
-
Enhance physical and curricular accessibility for all pupils, including those with SEND.
-
Continue to improve staff understanding of equality and diversity issues in order to create a more inclusive school culture.
-
Provide reasonable adjustments to support staff with disabilities, promoting inclusion and equal access to the workplace.

Equality in Employment
We operate a meritocracy; all staff appointments and promotions are made on merit and ability and in compliance with the law. The Equality and Diversity in Employment Policy provides employees with a clear statement about the school’s commitment to promoting equality and diversity within employment.
